History:
He was taken suddenly ill with severe
vomiting and diarrhoea on the night of the 18th September, 1937,
and was sent to the Cholera Hospital on early morning of the
19th.
He had been inoculated on 11th August,
1937.
cases were confirmed bacteriologically.
All three cases were
I regret to say that Mr. Hicks died on 20th and Mr. Holden
died on 23rd.
Mrs. Pearson eventually made a good recovery and was dis-
charged from hospital on 13th October, 1937.
On making full inquiries as to the probability of any
common source of infection it was ascertained that all three
individuals were in the habit of lunching at Wiseman's Cafe.
Commencing the week on Monday 13th September, they res-
pectively lunched as follows :-

On the Saturday, 18th., they all lunched at their res-
pective residences. The only day they all chose from the
same menu was Thursday the 16th. The Table d'Hote tiffin on
that day was :
Iced Consomme Julienne. Poached Fillet of Garoupa

Shrimp Sauce. Bread Sauce.
Roast Spring Chicken
Rissoles Potatoes Kale au beurre.
Caramel Custard.
Coffee.
144 such tiffins were served on that day. It was impossible
to incrimina te.any food in particular. All three sat at differ-
ent tables and were served by different waiters.
Specimens of stools were obtained under supervision from
